Subjects of an Anthology retrospective in 2011, filmmakers Rainer Frimmel & Tizza Covi are back with their fifth and most recent feature film, THE SHINE OF DAY. Like its predecessor - LA PIVELLINA, which represented their first foray into fiction filmmaking - the new film draws from their roots in non-fiction cinema. Its protagonist, Philipp Hochmair, is in fact a renowned Austrian theatrical actor - here he plays a version of himself, as he prepares for and performs in a variety of plays, and one day finds himself receiving an unexpected visit from his aging uncle Walter, whom he's never met. A dual-portrait of two men whose very different sensibilities and approaches to life emerge more through dialogue and debate than through over-determined drama, and whose basic respect and affection for each other is sometimes frayed but never severed, THE SHINE OF DAY is a beautiful and sensitive film. Genesis P-Orridge is a infamous figure in the international music and art community; he earned both acclaim and controversy with his work as part of the British art collective COUM Transmissions in the mid-70s, was a founding member of the experimental rock band Throbbing Gristle, and was a pioneering figure in industrial and electronic music with his later ensemble Psychic TV. But P-Orridge himself became one of his own most notable art projects when, after relocating to the United States, he met Jacqueline Breyer in 1993. P-Orridge and Breyer feel deeply in love, and became constant companions and collaborators, so much so that he became fascinated with the notion of fusing their identities. The two began extensive rounds of plastic surgery so they would look nearly identical, with P-Orridge getting breast implants so his figure would more closely resemble hers. Filmmaker Marie Losier explores Genesis P-Orridge's life and career and his relationship with Breyer in the documentary The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye. The film was an official selection at the 2011 Berlin Film Festival, where it received the Teddy Award for best LBGT-themed documentary. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Shot over the course of five years by first time filmmaker Al Hicks, KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON depicts the remarkable story of 93-year-old jazz legend Clark Terry. A living monument to the Golden Era of Jazz, Terry - a mentor to Miles Davis - is among the few performers ever to have played in both Count Basie's and Duke Ellington's bands. In the 1960's, he broke the color barrier as the first African-American staff musician at NBC - on "The Tonight Show". Today, after a life spent working with and teaching the most totemic figures in jazz history, Terry continues to attract and cultivate budding talents. KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON highlights his friendship with the preternaturally gifted Justin Kauflin, a blind, 23-year-old piano prodigy who suffers from debilitating stage fright. Not long after Kauflin is invited to compete in an elite Jazz competition, Terry's health takes a turn for the worse. As the clock ticks, we see two friends confront the toughest challenges of their lives. Kauflin's work on the film's score with composer Dave Grusin sets the tone for a story that spans decades, lifetimes and the entire history of modern Jazz, complete with firsthand anecdotes from Jones and Herbie Hancock. KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON is a film crafted with great affection by Hicks - another former student of Terry's - a grace note for his teacher, infused with soulfulness and serendipity. Paula DuPre' Pesmen (behind the Academy Award winning THE COVE and the Oscar nominated CHASING ICE) produced the film with seven time Academy Award nominee Quincy Jones who also counts Terry as his mentor. Jones came on board as producer after literally walking into the film as one of its subjects, discovering Justin's talent purely by chance during a visit at Clark's home. (C) Radius-TWC
