Cast: Emmanuelle Seigner Mathieu Amalric
Genre: Drama Comedy

Based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway play by David Ives, which itself was based on Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's groundbreaking novella, VENUS IN FUR is the latest film from master filmmaker Roman Polanski. Alone in a Paris theater after a long day of auditioning actresses for his new play, writer-director Thomas (Amalric) complains that no actress he's seen has what it takes to play the lead female character: a woman who enters into an agreement with her male counterpart to dominate him as her slave. Thomas is about to leave the theater when actress Vanda (Seigner) bursts in, a whirlwind of erratic - and, it turns out, erotic - energy. At first she seems to embody everything Thomas has been lamenting. She is pushy, foul-mouthed, desperate and ill-prepared - or so it seems. When Thomas finally, reluctantly, agrees to let her try out for the part, he is stunned and captivated by her transformation. Not only is Vanda a perfect fit (even sharing the character's name), but she apparently has researched the role exhaustively, learned her lines by heart and even bought her own props. The likeness proves to be much more than skin-deep. As the extended "audition" builds momentum, Thomas moves from attraction to obsession until, with Vanda taking an ever more dominant role, the balance of power shifts completely. (C) IFC

As he did in "EATING," "GOING SHOPPING," "BABYFEVER" and "IRENE IN TIME," Writer-Director Henry Jaglom gives us a bracingly funny, fearless and fast-paced human comedy about yet another vital issue facing all women at a certain critical turning point in their lives. Set in a struggling Los Angeles television station threatened by economic downturn, possible in-house graft and massive job loss, Tanna Frederick plays Moxie, a children's TV show actress who unexpectedly turns into a Joan of Ark (with the passion of Norma Rae) when she finds herself leading an extraordinary band of rebelling women demanding their rights as they anxiously face uncertain futures after their new boss (Michael Imperioli) and his second-in-command (Robert Hallak) arrive from New York on a devastating cost-cutting mission. All of Moxie's personal and professional assumptions and those of her long-time boyfriend (Corey Feldman) are turned upside-down as her mother (Frances Fisher), her two aunts (Mary Crosby and Eliza Roberts), and her stepfather (Gregory Harrison), join with dozens of her fellow female office workers to illuminate the struggles, challenges and joys of what is still, in some circles, referred to as 'The Change Of Life.' A warm, funny, literate comedy in which two French actors portray two French actors, friends at odds with one another in every possible way, except their love of Moliere's The Misanthrope. Lambert Wilson (OF GODS AND MEN) plays Gauthier, tall, handsome, and the beneficiary of a leading role in a ridiculous soap opera as a beloved cosmetic surgeon who "saves lives." Fabrice Luchini (who previously worked with Le Guay in WOMEN ON THE 6TH FLOOR) as Serge has met with much less success, becoming a middle-aged curmudgeon who has renounced the stage to live on the glorious ile de Re, off France's Atlantic coast. Gauthier arrives on Serge's turf to try to convince his pal (Luchini, in real life, a Moliere expert) to return to Paris to play opposite him in a new production. When not arguing or rehearsing scenes while biking, they consider their options as personified by a local porn actress and an attractive Italian divorcee, as well as the lure of island real estate. Subjects of an Anthology retrospective in 2011, filmmakers Rainer Frimmel & Tizza Covi are back with their fifth and most recent feature film, THE SHINE OF DAY. Like its predecessor - LA PIVELLINA, which represented their first foray into fiction filmmaking - the new film draws from their roots in non-fiction cinema. Its protagonist, Philipp Hochmair, is in fact a renowned Austrian theatrical actor - here he plays a version of himself, as he prepares for and performs in a variety of plays, and one day finds himself receiving an unexpected visit from his aging uncle Walter, whom he's never met. A dual-portrait of two men whose very different sensibilities and approaches to life emerge more through dialogue and debate than through over-determined drama, and whose basic respect and affection for each other is sometimes frayed but never severed, THE SHINE OF DAY is a beautiful and sensitive film. Ever since, Emily has suffered from a psychological condition known as ICD-10 F 24, in which she's constantly haunted by visions of horrible tragedies; Noah is a part of Emily's illness in that he also sees the same things when he's around her, but not when they're apart. While it might be best if the two keep their distance, they share an emotional bond that makes it difficult for them to stay away. When Noah is severely injured in another auto accident, he struggles to remember the unhappy events of his past, while elsewhere, Emily seeks treatment with a psychiatrist, Dr. Jane Sheppard (Joey Lauren Adams), who believes therapy can take the frightening visions away. However, as Dr. Sheppard studies Emily's hallucinations, she discovers they have a startling resemblance to real-life events and wonders if the young woman has a gift of prophecy.
