Trashed - No Place For Waste with the participation of Jeremy Irons, looks at the risks to the food chain and the environment through pollution of our air, land and sea by waste. The film reveals surprising truths about very immediate and potent dangers to our health. It is a global conversation from Iceland to Indonesia between the film star Jeremy Irons and scientists, politicians and ordinary i ndividuals whose health and livelihoods have been fundamentally affected by waste pollution. Visually and emotionally the film is both horrific and beautiful: an interplay of human interest and political wake-up call. But it ends on a message of hope: showing how the risks to our survival can easily be averted through sustainable approaches that provide far more employment than the current 'waste industry'.(c) Official Site

1975. In Rome, Claude Lanzmann filmed a series of interviews with Benjamin Murmelstein, the last President of the Jewish Council in the Theresienstadt ghetto in Czechoslovakia, the only "Elder of the Jews"* not to have been killed during the war. A rabbi in Vienna, following the annexation of Austria by Germany in 1938, Murmelstein fought bitterly with Adolf Eichmann, week after week for seven years, managing to help around 121,000 Jews leave the country, and preventing the liquidation of the ghetto. 2012. Claude Lanzmann, at 87 - without masking anything of the passage of time on men, but showing the incredible permanence of the locations involved -exhumes these interviews shot in Rome, returning to Theresienstadt, the town "given to the Jews by Hitler", a so-‐called model ghetto, but a ghetto of deceit chosen by Adolf Eichmann to dupe the world. We discover the extraordinary personality of Benjamin Murmelstein: a man blessed with a dazzling intelligence and a true courage, which, along with an unrivaled memory, makes him a wonderfully wry, sardonic and authentic storyteller. Through these three periods, from Nisko in Poland to Theresienstadt, and from Vienna to Rome, the film provides an unprecedented insight into the genesis of the Final Solution. It reveals the true face of Eichmann, and exposes without artifice the savage contradictions of the Jewish Councils. (c) Cohen

Mozart's sublime tragic comedy offers boundless scope for directors, and Kasper Holten has chosen it to follow his directorial debut of Eugene Onegin. He wants to shift the emphasis from Don Giovanni's sex life into a darker place, showing Giovanni's womanizing as an attempt to stave off his own mortality. Each woman he seduces represents a life he could have had. Though it is a dark piece, Holten intends to handle it with a light touch and he is working with a superb cast - Mariusz Kwiecien, one of the world's leading Don Giovannis, Alex Esposito, a fresh, vigorous Leporello and acclaimed French soprano Veronique Gens.

First explaining how America arrived at our current industrial system, the story shifts to the present day, showing the feedlots and confinement houses, not through hidden cameras but through the eyes of the farmers who live and work there. From there, the documentary introduces the revolution taking root in animal husbandry, led by the charismatic and passionate Joel Salatin. Stories are shared of farmers across the country who have changed their life to start grass-‐based farms, and everyday solutions highlight actions people can make to support America's agriculture. She just left her job, as well as her cheating boyfriend, Paul (Bryan Greenberg). Her cynical little sister Penny (Dreama Walker) is threatening to overshadow the whole affair with the most inappropriate party announcement. And she is pretty sure she's too old to still be living with her creepy roommate. What starts out as a well-intentioned day of celebration quickly spirals into a most ill-fated disaster, from an ex-boyfriend who can't "get enough" to the bands dueling in the backyard and from disloyal friends showing their true colors to a manic-depressive party photographer who may have forgotten to take his meds. In this hilarious ensemble comedy set entirely inside a kitchen, turning 30 has never looked this chaotic! (c) Monterey Media

You may be confused about the title of this opera. That's because it's TWO operas. There's a long-standing tradition of showing these two operas, "Cavalleria Rusticana," by Mascagni, and "Pagliacci," by Leoncavallo, on the same billing. They're both quite brief, and in a similar style, so it works. One of the most famous images in all of opera -- Pavarotti putting white clown makeup on while crying and singing a sad, sad song -- is from Pagliacci.
