It was all the result of a decision to change the national standard for obesity. The question is "What was behind a ruling to declare so many people to be fat? Was it political, financial or for the good of humankind?" You'll find out that diet companies have raked in huge profits because of the new standards - guidelines the weight loss industry helped structure. The answer lies in a new film by award-winning director Darryl Roberts who, in a follow-up to America The Beautiful, examines the cause of our country's obsession with dieting. America The Beautiful 2: The Thin Commandments also weighs in on the raging debate between doctors who say fat is healthy versus those who disagree. -- (C) Official Site

With his intensely autobiographical paintings depicting the day-to-day existence of African Americans in the segregated South, Winfred Rembert has preserved an important, if often disturbing, chapter of American history. His indelible images of toiling in the cotton fields, singing in church, dancing in juke joints, or working on a chain gang are especially powerful, not just because he lived every moment, but because he experienced so much of the injustice and bigotry they show as recently as the 1960s and 70s. In All Me: The Life and Times of Winfred Rembert, the artist relives his turbulent life, abundantly visualized by his extensive paintings. -- (C) Official Site

A soldier must fight for his own survival as well as the cause of his people in this powerful drama from acclaimed Polish filmmaker Jerzy Skolimowski. A pair of American security operatives (Zach Cohen and Iftach Ofir) are on patrol in Afghanistan when they stumble upon a Taliban fighter (Vincent Gallo), who kills them despite his terror and nervousness. While trying to escape, the Afghan is captured by American forces; he's tortured during interrogation, but doesn't tell the Americans anything, in part because an explosion has made it difficult for him to hear what they're saying. The Americans ship the Afghan off to a detention facility with a number of other Taliban soldiers, but upon arrival he's able to escape. However, the Afghan finds himself in a forbidding snowbound climate, and with no provisions or warm clothing he struggles to simply survive as he avoids his pursuers and struggles to find some way to get home. Shot with very little dialogue (and almost none delivered by leading man Gallo), Essential Killing received its North American premiere at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
