Pray for Japan is a feature length documentary film I began when volunteering in Tohoku, Japan after the earthquake and tsunami tragedy. I shot 40 hours of footage over 5 weeks in Tohoku, interviewing over 30 people - from victims to volunteers. The goal of the film is to share with the world the same inspiration I felt from meeting these real-life heroes. No matter how difficult, how insurmountable was the challenge they faced, these people overcame. The battle to rebuild Tohoku and Japan continues - and the world must not forget their story. -- (C) Official Site

There's no telephone, running water or medical aid, The locals, whose daily routines have barely changed over the last centuries, live according to their own values and cultural traditions. Choosing life in life's final chapter is the poignant subtext of this new powerful documentary, a lyrical portrait of eight nursing home residents who make a pilgrimage to Israel. Offered a seat on the bus for a 10-day tour, the viewer accompanies individuals with various personal theologies in and out of museums, crossing Israeli landscapes from mountains to desert. But Next Year Jerusalem is less a story about tourists in a foreign land than it is a meditation on the sanctity of human experience and a tribute to the wisdom acquired in the course of a lifetime. Earnest and nuanced, it is a true exploration of living and dying, hope and fear, travel and memory. A celebration of and a reverent tribute to life's eldest travelers.(c) First Run

NA WEWE; Belgium; Oscar Nominee: Ivan Goldschmidt. 1994: There is civil war in Burundi, a small country of Central Africa directly bordering Rwanda. A near genocidal confrontation opposes rebels mainly composed of ethnic Hutus and a national army with a majority of Tutsis. This short film relates a sadly frequent episode of this fratricidal conflict: the attack by rebels of a minivan carrying ordinary citizens. A Kalashnikov bursts out. The bus stops, the passengers get off. An order is barked: "Hutus to the left, Tutsis to the right!" The sorting out begins. But who is a Hutu, who is a Tutsi? This story is entirely based on real people and situations. It was written by a person who has lived in the beauty of Burundi and suffered its horrors. With emotion, suspense and humor it exposes the absurdity of ethnic and racial strife. "NA WEWE" (pronounce "Na wayway") means "You too" in Kirundi. (19 min.) With a cast and crew of over 40 people and 20 plus songs from her back catalogue (The Teaches of Peaches, Fatherfucker, Impeach my Bush, I Feel Cream) Peaches wrote, directed and starred in this fantastical narrative build obscurely around her development as an artist and performer from "bedroom wannabe to fully fledged rock-stardom and beyond!". The result is a retrospective 'anti-jukebox' musical; a wild and wonderful trip through landmark moments in her career and albums, channeled through the eccentric and sexually skewed fibres of Peaches' imagination: "Peaches Does Herself tells the story of a young woman who, inspired by a 65-year-old stripper, begins to make sexually forthright music. Her popularity grows and she becomes what her fans expect her to be: transsexual. She falls in love with a beautiful she-male, but gets her heart broken and then ventures on a path of self-discovery." And just over a year later, Peaches' sensational electro-rock opera exploded onto the silver screen! After ten live performances, over 1,500 cuts, a movie was pulled together in a labour of love and polished up over the period of a year and lucky audiences in Toronto were the first to see the film when it had its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2012. Critics have described the movie as "a 'Pina' for the queer and sexually liberated crowd" and others "a great introduction to the wild, pumping, sexual world of Peaches". Peaches herself likes to describe it as "The Jukebox Musical that got a Sex Change"! (C) Official Site
