As he did in "EATING," "GOING SHOPPING," "BABYFEVER" and "IRENE IN TIME," Writer-Director Henry Jaglom gives us a bracingly funny, fearless and fast-paced human comedy about yet another vital issue facing all women at a certain critical turning point in their lives. Set in a struggling Los Angeles television station threatened by economic downturn, possible in-house graft and massive job loss, Tanna Frederick plays Moxie, a children's TV show actress who unexpectedly turns into a Joan of Ark (with the passion of Norma Rae) when she finds herself leading an extraordinary band of rebelling women demanding their rights as they anxiously face uncertain futures after their new boss (Michael Imperioli) and his second-in-command (Robert Hallak) arrive from New York on a devastating cost-cutting mission. All of Moxie's personal and professional assumptions and those of her long-time boyfriend (Corey Feldman) are turned upside-down as her mother (Frances Fisher), her two aunts (Mary Crosby and Eliza Roberts), and her stepfather (Gregory Harrison), join with dozens of her fellow female office workers to illuminate the struggles, challenges and joys of what is still, in some circles, referred to as 'The Change Of Life.' HERE COMES THE DEVIL combines modern indie filmmaking and storytelling with a hint of '70s-styled psychological horror that may not just be psychological. Francisco Barreiro and Laura Caro play parents Felix and Sol whose preteen son and daughter inexplicably reappear after being lost overnight on a desolate, cave-riddled mountainside after a casual hike became every parent's nightmare. The good luck and good fortune of their return soon changes, as the children's behavior suggests ominous and unspeakable events the night the children were lost that continue even now. As a loving couple - and loving parents - try to care for and protect their children, the ancient and half-whispered legends around the caves and the mountain and those who have gone there before become too strange to believe ... and too dangerous, no matter how insane, to ignore. In 1999, Bill Wilson was named one of TIME Magazine's 100 Heroes and Icons of the 20th Century for his role as co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. But 65 years earlier, in 1934, he had faced almost certain death from his uncontrollable drinking. At the time, medicine viewed alcoholism as a symptom of deeper psychiatric issues, and alcoholics were treated with lobotomies, shock therapy, or imprisonment. Despite this, Bill Wilson found a way to sobriety, and then forged a path for countless others to follow. With Bill as its driving force, A.A. grew from a handful of men to a worldwide fellowship of over 2 million men and women. Thousands of people throughout the world now credit him with saving their lives - both alcoholics and members of dozens of other 12 Step recovery groups. Bill's leadership eventually made him an icon within A.A. - and a man unable to be a member of the very society he had created. Through interviews, recreations, and rare archival material, Bill W. traces Wilson's life through his 17 years of devastating alcoholism, the crucial years of A.A.'s founding and growth, his battle with depression, his experimentation with LSD, and his struggle with celebrity status in an anonymous society. A reluctant hero, Bill Wilson lived a life of sacrifice and service, and left a legacy of recovery that continues every day, all around the world. Bill W. took eight years of full-time work to complete. The filmmakers conducted research in dozens of archives and private collections, and interviewed A.A. members and historians in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Making a film about the founder of an anonymous society, especially one who died in 1971, presented many obstacles, of course. Very few people who knew Bill W. were still alive at the time this production began. At first, it seemed as if there would be very little visual material available for use in a film. But research and a healthy dose of good fortune allowed the producers to unearth film footage and photographs - including some that had never been seen before - and some new material that had not been included in previous written biographies of Bill Wilson. As a result, Bill W. presents a new look at the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous.

In this psychological thriller from director Aaron Rottinghau, Noah (Josh Danziger) and Emily (Olesya Rulin) first met as children on a school field trip that turned tragic when their bus was involved in a serious accident. Ever since, Emily has suffered from a psychological condition known as ICD-10 F 24, in which she's constantly haunted by visions of horrible tragedies; Noah is a part of Emily's illness in that he also sees the same things when he's around her, but not when they're apart. While it might be best if the two keep their distance, they share an emotional bond that makes it difficult for them to stay away. When Noah is severely injured in another auto accident, he struggles to remember the unhappy events of his past, while elsewhere, Emily seeks treatment with a psychiatrist, Dr. Jane Sheppard (Joey Lauren Adams), who believes therapy can take the frightening visions away. However, as Dr. Sheppard studies Emily's hallucinations, she discovers they have a startling resemblance to real-life events and wonders if the young woman has a gift of prophecy. New York City. Fall, 1995. Below the feet of Times Square tourists, down a long flight of stairs, is a world where topless dancers spin around poles and grind money out of the pockets of nameless faces. For most, it's a fantasy. For some, it's therapy. For a few, a confessional. But beyond the Main Stage, and behind the Men's Room door you'll find a different kind of performance going on - a grifter with more talent and charisma than most of the dancers. Meet Shoes, the bathroom attendant. He's been here three years. Will he stay, or will he go? All he knows, for now, is that as the masses enter, he has one objective - get whatever cash they're holding into his tip bowl. No easy task. Mental illness is a real and growing problem in Japan, but one that is not acknowledged in many quarters. Government funding for mental health care has been shrinking, putting a greater burden on existing clinics and their staffs, and a strong stigma against acknowledging psychological problems is still common. Dr. Masatomo Yamamoto is a psychiatrist who runs Chorale Okayama, an outpatient mental health facility in Japan, and filmmaker Kazuhiro Soda presents a glimpse into his work and his patients in the documentary Seishin (aka Mental). Among those seeking help at Chorale Okayama are a woman who murdered her own child, a businessman who can no longer handle the stress of his job, and a woman who developed an eating disorder after being taunted for her fat legs; Yamamoto's other patients are dealing with everything from multiple personality to panic disorder. Yamamoto's goal is to return as many of his clients as possible to a productive life in society, and offers occupational therapy in two small businesses affiliated with Chorale Okayama, a dairy and a restaurant. However, though Yamamoto has much to be proud of, he usually finds himself dealing with more than he has the resources to handle, and a handful of his clients opt to commit suicide rather than see their treatment through. Mental was an official selection at the 2009 Miami International Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
